Mod, tillit och kraft
Under pandemin såg vi en sällan skådad samling kring ett enda mål - att stoppa smittspridningen av Covid-19 och på snabbast möjliga tid få fram vacciner. Pandemin var en tragedi på många sätt, men det har också blivit ett kraftfullt exempel på hur man kan arbeta missionsorienterat mot ett stort gemensamt mål. Det blev en situation där aktörerna var tvungna att sätta sig ner tillsammans, släppa all prestige, alla gamla arbetssätt för att tänka nytt och överkomma hinder. Tänk om vi kunde hitta samma mod, tillit och handlingskraft när det gäller kampen mot lungcancer?
Lungcancer är den cancerform som skördar flest liv och det krävs stor handlingskraft. Även om mycket har hänt i form av nya behandlingsmöjligheter, ny diagnostik, gentestning och avancerad strålbehandling återstår mycket arbete innan de nya innovationerna används fullt ut i rutinsjukvården.
Sjukvården måste ges möjlighet att kunna arbeta med en individanpassad diagnostik och behandling, det vi kallar precisionsmedicin. Fortfarande får över hälften av alla personer med lungcancer sin diagnos för sent för att den ska gå att bota.
Det är inte acceptabelt och vi behöver samarbeta mer både internationellt och nationellt. Då behövs tillit mellan aktörerna. Sjukvården, industrin, patientföreningar, akademin och politiken måste börja arbeta mot samma mål och tillsammans. Alla behöver kunna lita på att vi gör detta för att nå målet att ingen ska behöva dö i cancer och att dödligheten i lungcancer ska halveras till år 2030.

During the pandemic, we witnessed an unprecedented gathering around a single goal - to stop the spread of Covid-19 and develop vaccines as quickly as possible. The pandemic was a tragedy in many ways, but it also became a powerful example of how to work mission-oriented towards a common goal. It became a situation where actors had to come together, set aside all prestige, all old ways of working to think anew and overcome obstacles. What if we could find the same courage, trust, and determination in the fight against lung cancer?
Lung cancer is the cancer that claims the most lives, and it requires significant action. Although much has happened in terms of new treatment options, new diagnostics, genetic testing, and advanced radiotherapy, there is still much work to be done before the new innovations are fully utilized in routine healthcare.
Healthcare must be given the opportunity to work with personalized diagnostics and treatment, what we call precision medicine. Still, over half of all people with lung cancer receive their diagnosis too late to be curable.
This is unacceptable, and we need to collaborate more both internationally and nationally. This requires trust among the actors. Healthcare, industry, patient associations, academia, and politics must start working towards the same goal and together. Everyone needs to trust that we are doing this to achieve the goal of no one dying from cancer and to halve the mortality rate of lung cancer by 2030.
