Precisionsmedicin drivs av forskning och innovation, men dess utveckling och implementering kräver ett kontinuum av åtgärder i hälso- och sjukvården. Vad behöver göras och vilka investeringar krävs så att precisionsmedicin kan användas för att säkerställa en god, jämlik och effektiv cancervård? Life science-strategin har satt ramverket och ambitionen för utvecklingen av precisionsmedicin i Sverige. Behandlingens natur, det vill säga att den i olika grad är anpassad efter individens unika behov och förutsättningar, ställer unika krav på både forskningen och sjukvården, inte minst då gränsen mellan det som traditionellt betecknas som sjukvård och forskning blir mindre uttalad. Hur kan nationella precisionsmedicinska studier, ny teknik och nya betalningsmodeller användas för att modernisera cancervården på ett hållbart och jämlikt sätt, till nytta för den enskilde patienten och för samhället i stort? Hur gör vi för att alla cancerpatienter som behöver, verkligen får tillgång till precisionsmedicin?

Precision medicine is driven by research and innovation, but its development and implementation require a continuum of actions in healthcare. What needs to be done and what investments are required to ensure that precision medicine can be used to ensure good, equitable, and effective cancer care? The life science strategy has set the framework and ambition for the development of precision medicine in Sweden. The nature of treatment, namely its adaptation to the individual's unique needs and conditions, places unique demands on both research and healthcare, especially as the boundary between what is traditionally referred to as healthcare and research becomes less pronounced. How can national precision medicine studies, new technology, and new payment models be used to modernize cancer care in a sustainable and equitable manner, benefiting both the individual patient and society at large? How do we ensure that all cancer patients who need it actually have access to precision medicine?
